Harpoon Brewery Releases 100 Barrel Series Braggot Rights
Boston, MA – Victory was sweet for Harpoon Brewery brewer Steve Theoharides in the 2014 Harpoon Kettle Cup, Harpoon’s annual employee brewing competition. His entry, a braggot, was the landslide winner out of nearly three dozen entries from his fellow Harpoon employee-owners, clinching a coveted spot in the Harpoon 100 Barrel Series lineup. Harpoon Braggot Rights blends a big, juicy American Double IPA with Wildflower Honey – more than 7,000 pounds of it.
Harpoon Braggot Rights, the 53rd installment of Harpoon’s limited batch 100 Barrel Series, is a modern tribute to the medieval braggot style. Surprisingly light in body, the honey in this 8% ABV beer provides a slight lingering character towards the back of the palate. The orange and tropical fruit profile from El Dorado hops comes forth in both the aroma and initial taste. Where a bitter hop follow-through is expected, the beer takes a pleasant turn to a sweet honey finish.

Appearance: Hazy amber
Aroma: Big orange tropical fruit notes at first, with subtle honey rounding out the aroma.
Mouth feel: Light in body with a lingering honey thickness at the back of the palate.
Taste: Again, big orange and tropical fruit notes up front. Yeast characteristics as well as Malt selection play a large part behind the scenes in supporting the beer’s dynamic character.
Finish: Honey, with a touch hop bitterness and tropical fruit character.

Harpoon introduced the 100 Barrel Series in 2003 to showcase the individual brewing talents of its employees. Every couple months, a different Harpooner is invited to choose a style of beer, formulate the recipe, and brew the beer. That brewer’s signature can be found on the bottle label. The beers in the series are one-offs; they are brewed in limited batches and are available only until the batch sells out. Since the series began in May of 2003, 53 different styles of beer have been brewed.
