Hangar 24 Expansion News
REDLANDS – Spring 2010 means a time of growth at Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, where the remodeling of the existing building across from the Redlands Municipal Airport will help double brewing output from 8,000 barrels to 16,000 barrels a year by the summer.
Expansion News
When the original brewery opened in the spring of 2008, it was running at a capacity of 4,000 barrels a year. Three new 160-barrel stainless steel tanks will be installed in an adjacent room to the main brewery where the bottling equipment is located. The 30-foot tanks are so large that a section of roof will have to be removed and cranes will be used to get them in place.
Producing more product naturally means that more help is required, so Hangar 24 recently brought aboard sales and distribution manager Steve Garcia, (33 years of experience with a major brewer), and retail manager Shane Sowers (12 years retail experience at locations that include Romano’s Italian Restaurant and the Yardhouse).
Jobs at H24
In addition, a job fair is set for May 23 from 1-5 p.m. where up to four beer tenders and two tour guides will be hired. Hangar 24 is also hiring a cellarman (an assistant in most brewing duties) as well as a delivery driver, but those jobs aren’t being filled via the job fair.
“Growth is a good sign for the brewery, but it’s also a pleasant sign for the local community that we are able to add jobs,” Hangar 24 owner Ben Cook said. “If we continue at our current growth rate, more expansion and more hiring is projected in upcoming years.”
Currently, the brewery employs 25 people.
H24 Turns 2
Also on the schedule is Hangar 24’s 2nd Anniversary celebration, which will expand on an event that drew an estimated 4,000 visitors last year. The June 5 celebration will take place at the brewery from noon-7 p.m. Johnny’s Tacos & Sports will once again be providing food, but this year they will be joined by Mikan, Chili’s Grill and Bar and Romano’s Italian Restaurant. “Several” new beers will be on tap for the event (all to be announced), and some will be offered this one day only. Last year’s anniversary offering was an Imperial Blood Orange Wheat.
Shuttle service will also be provided, 2nd Anniversary logo items will be available for purchase and guided tours will be offered. Musical acts scheduled to perform are Big Papa and the TCB, followed by Kelly McGuire. All proceeds will benefit the Redlands Optimist Club.
