Firestone Stickee Monkee Makes Bottle Debut, Now a Central Coast Quad
(Paso Robles, CA) – Firestone Walker is adding to their barrel aged Proprietor’s Series lineup with a former “Skunk Works Project” beer known as Stickee Monkee. For those following along at home over the years, Stickee Monkee has been a component beer in the last few iterations of Firestone Walker’s Anniversary Ale. While the blending sheets and marketing info for this beer have indicated it’s an English Style Barleywine, this has recently been changed to a Central Coast Quad. Read below, as Firestone Walker explains the reasoning behind the labeling of this big barrel aged beer.
A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico and Belgian candi sugar add wonderful molasses flavors. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco.
This ale will be released along side Barrel Works Bretta Rose this weekend, and might be the beginning of Firestones foray into the Belgian Strong Ale genre. We’ve heard Saucerful of Secrets may be returning, which is a Belgian Ale that has been all but retired from the brewery and tasting room.
