One Star Review
“Upon entering the tasting room of Fieldwork I asked my beertender to grab me whatever her favorite beer currently is. She brought back a glass of a hazy elixir with an extremely potent nose spilling out of the glass. She then proceeded to explain to me what beer it was; One Star Review Double IPA. She said it is a big 9.5% Double IPA that has a hint of sweetness and a huge body that leaves the beer sticking to your palate. With little regard for scalability, the brewers apparently dump ten pounds per barrel of hops into this beer through multiple dry hoppings, with the vast majority of those being Mosaic and Enigma hops. I told her I know all about those hops, thanked her, sat down, then googled what Enigma hops are. Turns out these are some amazing new hops from Australia that are a righteous pain in the keister to procure. I see why this was her favorite beer, the hop aroma is beyond persistent with notes of melon, citrus, berries, and weed. With each sip, the beer is clinging to my taste buds like a hoppy oil slick. Hints of malt sweetness compliment the fruity hops giving them an almost candied profile which makes it surprisingly drinkable for such a large and over-hopped Double IPA. Bitterness is still kept in a nice and balanced restraint which is literally and figuratively refreshing. I’m impressed how much hop flavor and aroma they could cram into this beer, and the quality of hops is stellar. If you like hoppy beers and are in the area One Star Review Double IPA is a must get. Overall this is quite the hop monster. On a scale of 1 to 5, I have to give it one star, I don’t like hoppy beers.”
