Deschutes Brewery News – 9 New Labels, The Dissident Goes Annual + Black Butte XXVII Details
(Bend,OR) – Deschutes Brewery announces details on their famous sour ale Dissident as well as what twist is in store for Black Butte XXVII. We also take a look at what appears to be an entire packaging facelift across many of their core and seasonal product lines. Cheers!
The Dissident
You read it right, The Dissident is back! Gone are its bi-annual days when fanatics, including many of us, wept in the grocery store aisles and beer bars during the “off” years. This magnificent sour ale is now an annual release from the brewery. Eighteen plus months in isolation, The Dissident is a distinctive Flanders-style sour brown ale, with a fruity aroma and flavor. Wild yeasts brettanomyces and lactobacillus impart its characteristic sour taste and a lavish amount of Oregon cherries – pits, stems and all – creates balanced perfection. It’s our wildest, most pampered beer.
Black Butte XVII
Every year, we celebrate our anniversary with an imperial, bourbon barrel-aged version of our flagship Black Butte Porter. Our brewers love to experiment and they always add some fun new ingredients to this beer to celebrate. In the past, you may have found chilies, cranberries, pomegranate molasses, dates, figs and other such goodies. This year, our brewers tell us that they’ve added rosewater in the kettle, and apricot, Chinese five spice and chocolate nibs in conditioning.
