Deschutes Brewery Holiday Favorite Returns for 20th Year
A whirling, whimsical snowstorm brightens the sky over wintery blue peaks in Lindy Gruger Hanson’s painting for this year’s Jubelale label. The artwork will grace bottles of Deschutes Brewery’s award-winning seasonal ale, available only from October through December.
Every year Deschutes Brewery selects a Northwest artist to create an image evocative of the season’s festive atmosphere. Gruger Hanson, who lives in Bend, painted a playful scene of starry, snowflake-like symbols above an abstract range of sawtooth mountains.
“I was thinking of winter festivities and fun, and that for me, brings up images of snow and being outside,” said Gruger Hanson, “I love mountains and celestial images too. So snowflakes and sky and blue mountains were a natural progression from these thoughts, and I combined all these ideas into creating the Jubelale painting.”
Jubelale, made with dark crystal malt and whole flower hops, provides a rich flavor perfectly matched for the cold weather and hearty foods of winter. It’s also the first beer ever bottled by Deschutes Brewery, and 2007 marks the 20th version of this seasonal favorite.
