Crooked Stave to Release Origins, Petite Sour Grapefruit Radler & CO WildSage
Denver, CO – Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project continues its weekly bottle release schedule with the release of Origins Burgundy Sour on Wednesday, June 10 followed by the dual bottle release of Colorado WildSage and Petite Sour Grapefruit Radler on Wednesday, June 17. All releases will take place at the brewery’s taproom (3350 Brighton Blvd) at 6:00 p.m. MST.
Origins (6.5% ABV) is a Burgundy Sour Ale aged in Oak Barrels. The June 10th release will mark the brewery’s fifth batch of this beer. Crooked Stave released its first batch in the spring of 2013 at its Barrel Cellar.
“We like to call Origins our homage to the history of barrel aging and those who have influenced us along the way,” said Chad Yakobson, Crooked Stave Owner/Head Brewer. “This beer is one of our best examples of what barrel aging can really bring to a beer. It’s really a basic beer, but after extended time conditioning in oak, it becomes so complex. Robust vinous notes and charred oak are rounded out by the tartness we love from our mixed culture fermentation.”
The following week, on Wednesday, June 17, Crooked Stave will release its second bottling of Colorado WildSage in addition to Petite Sour Grapefruit Radler at its taproom.
Colorado WildSage (7.2% ABV) is a Brett Saison brewed to embody Colorado’s high country. Each batch uses fresh white sage and lemongrass foraged from the Rocky Mountains and is fermented with Crooked Stave’s mixed culture of Brettanomyces yeast.
Petite Sour Grapefruit Radler (5.5% ABV), the seventh release in Crooked Stave’s line-up of Petite Sours, was primary fermented in oak with the brewery’s mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria, and then received the equivalent of over a pound per gallon of grapefruit juice.
“Radlers are traditional German beverages consisting of a blend of beer and citrus juice,” said Yakobson. “Our beers naturally take on citrus notes from our mixed culture and we like to play around with adding fruit. It was a natural progression for us to make a radler of our own. And we’re releasing it just in time for summer weather.”
