Crooked Letter Brewing Crafts 3 New Exclusive Brews
Biloxi, MI – MGM Resorts International and Beau Rivage Resort & Casino are pleased to announce a partnership made in craft beer heaven with Mississippi’s own Crooked Letter Brewing Company based in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. This week, Crooked Letter unveiled three new brews available exclusively for guests of Beau Rivage.
“This project was initiated a little more than a year ago with Crooked Letter Brewing Company owners Paul and Wanda Blacksmith, brewer John Meyers and Ann Magruder of Rex Distributing,” said Beau Rivage Beverage Manager Bruce Cartwright. “We’re excited to collaborate with two outstanding local companies so that we may bring an exclusive new line of beers to Beau Rivage guests.”
Sheep Shank Ale, Double Half Hitch Imperial IPA and Anchor Bend Imperial Stout will now be available throughout the resort in the casino, restaurants, bars, theatre and retail stores.
The Beau Rivage line of beers is named for shipping knots, in honor of the water and nautical themes iconic to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The line includes:
- Sheep Shank Kolsch Ale, 4.5% ABV, is a kolsch style beer, with similarities of a lager, for smoothness on the palate, light aroma from the hops, and filtered for clarity and color.
- Anchor Bend Imperial Stout, 9.5% ABV, is extremely balanced, dark ale with complex malts derived from several different styles of roasted barley. Dosed with a few hop varieties to balance off this somewhat sweet beverage, due to being High Gravity / High Alcohol By
- Double Half Hitch Imperial, IPA 7.5% ABV, is a very full bodied India Pale Ale, with hop additions throughout the entire brewing process, making the palate and nose of any IPA lover satisfied – Bitterness, Flavor, and Aroma.
“It’s an honor to work with Beau Rivage,” said Wanda Blacksmith, co-owner, brewer and CEO of Crooked Letter Brewing Company. “It’s actually overwhelming to know that people from all over the world can potentially taste beers that came from Crooked Letter Brewing Company.”
MGM Resorts International’s Beau Rivage has a history of brewing. The resort opened in 1999 with Coast Brewing Company, Mississippi’s first microbrewery. The award-winning Biloxi Blonde and six other beers were brewed on site at Beau Rivage until the brewpub and its tanks were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The resort reopened in 2006 following a dramatic year-long $550-million renovation and Coast returned as a nightclub without the brewery.
Sheep Shank Ale, Double Half Hitch Imperial IPA and Anchor Bend Imperial Stout will be available exclusively at Beau Rivage in Biloxi and Gold Strike Casino Resort in Tunica, Mississippi.

About Crooked Letter Brewing
Wanda and Paul Blacksmith began their brewing hobby nearly a decade ago, learning and brewing from their childhood friend when he would return home from college. That friend is now Head Brewer, John Myers. Dreams and talks about brewing spurred up on the deck during homebrew sessions for years, and then in September 2009 a journey of business planning began, and ultimately the reality came to exist in October of 2012, when Crooked Letter Brewing Company took residence in Ocean Springs. Two expansions have already occurred, with the addition of four new fermentation vessels and a bottling line, which meant another full time Brewer could be hired. Wanda’s brother and homebrewer himself, Scott Mitchell made the move back to Mississippi from Dallas, Texas. The Brewery’s four core brands –Mystery Romp Porter, Gipsy IPA, Stabello Italian-style Lager and Crooked Heffy American Hefeweizen -are distributed throughout Mississippi and Louisiana on draft and in bottle.
