Craft Beer News Roundup: Hangar 24, Dark Lord Day Rumors, Cricket Hill and Cigar City Hunahpu’s Day
It’s time, it’s time, it’s craft beer news roundup time! Read some news bits on Hangar 24, Dark Lord Day 2012, Cricket Hill Brewery and Cigar City Brewing’s Hunahpu’s Day. Cheers!
Hangar 24 Brewery – “We’re continuing to expand on our Barrel Roll series this year which are our barrel aged beers. The last release in December (Pugachev’s Cobra) was a huge success and coming off of that, the series is really gaining momentum. The next release happens at the end of March. Barrel Roll #4 – Hammerhead. It’s a barleywine style ale aged in rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Here’s the official label description: A well executed Hammerhead is smooth and dramatic. This beer is no exception. Hammerhead is a big, complex, American-style Barleywine featuring two English caramel malts and four American hops. Hammerhead’s character is enhanced by dry hopping and then aging the deep amber liquid for six months in charred oak rye whiskey and bourbon barrels. Spicy aromas spill from the glass: rich caramel, citrusy hops, bourbon and oak. Layered flavors of toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, spice and rye whiskey lead to a warm and slightly bitter finish. This is a strong ale, meant to be sipped, savored and enjoyed. ABV: 13.8%
And….we are going to cans! We have a brewery expansion pending (in our final phases of City of Redlands approvals) that will double the footprint of our current facility. We have a designated space in the addition for a canning line and we’re currently designing cans for Orange Wheat and Helles Lager. Our hope was to have them released by Memorial Day, but we’ve hit some slow spots with the expansion and literally don’t have a place for the canning line until the expansion happens. Looks like cans will be released mid-summer. ”
DarkLordDay – 3Floyds Made the official announcement of DarkLord Day 2012 ticket sale. You can read that by following this link. We’ve also heard there is a slight chance we may see a new label (if approval happens in time), and that a few tucked away cases of Baller Stout will go on sale. We are guessing stuff like Baller Stout and any Dark Lord Variants will be sold via the scratch and win system from last year.
Cricket Hill -Cricket Hill is thrilled to report, our 2 new fermenters, the grain silo, and chiller have all been installed and are up and running!!
