Craft Beer News Roundup: Brew Masters, Sixpoint, Twisted Pine, and Coronado
Are you ready for some Craft Beer News? We have some good info on Dogfish Head’s Brew Master’s, Sixpoint Craft Ales, Twisted Pine Brewing, and Coronado Brewing. Cheers!
Brew Masters (The show staring Sam Calagione that disappeared late last year on Discovery) – The Full Pint and tons of other DFH fans have been trying to find out why Brew Masters halted at episode 5, when would the 6th episode air, and what was the story behind this. While both Discovery Channel and DFH have been not given us the answers we desire, we found a very interesting thread on Ratebeer, in which ‘Joet’ claims that Anheuser-Busch threatened to pull advertisement from the channel unless Brew Masters was pulled. These rumors stem from TV chef Anthony Bourdain and from beer writer Andy Crouch. Here is a link to Andy’s piece. http://bit.ly/eOTU4x . When we reached out to Dogfish for comment, we got this quote from Sam.
“A number of folks have been reaching out me about this twitter stuff. I’d rather focus on positive stuff than negative at this point. So this is what I will say: No comment. Other than I’m a big No Reservation fan. And now more than ever – support your small, truly-indie breweries! Last night I had Two Prima Pils, and an Aprihop. Today I had cask-conditioned Thyme Pale Ale, Baladin Nora, Birra Del Borgo ReAle, and am enjoying an Indian Brown Ale as I type this. Focused on the goodness inside the bottle instead of the weirdness outside the bottle.”
Sixpoint Craft Ales – Sixpoint Brewery is happy to announce the Philadelphia release of our 1st ever Spring Seasonal: HARBINGER SAISON (5.8% ABV, 33 IBU). The Harbinger was brewed for the turning of the seasons from winter to spring. It’s our interpretation of a classic Belgian-style Saison. This hazy, golden ale has a crisp, carbonated mouth-feel with just a hint of tartness in the finish. The beer garnered rave reviews this past weekend as Pub & Kitchen soft-debuted the suds. This week the beer will see life all around the greater Philadelphia area..”
Twisted Pine Brewing – “We have a Sour Brown aging in our barrels right now – it is being released this fall in a small, Colorado only, quantity. Twisted Pine is also being distributed across the state of Florida by Brown Distributing. Our Ale House opened for lunch last week, with our new hours being M-F 11a-9p, Sat 12-9p, Sun 12-6p. We are offering happy hour from 11am-5pm on weekdays and offering a full menu available for viewing at twistedpinebrewing.com.”
Coronado Brewing – “We can’t keep up with all of the orders we have and it is becoming a bit stressful. That is good a good problem to have I suppose. We did just hire Dan Jensen who use to brew for Left Coast Brewing Company. As we grow, we needed more help and Dan seem to fit. We actually have some barleywine aging in brandy barells right now and hope to have that out in June of this year. We have 14 barells. We are currently looking for more capacity and have a site choosen for a new facitly but that is at least a year away. We will be at the LA beerfest in April and the City Beat beerfest also in April. We are doing the second saturday at Hamiltons in June of this year and have been cellaring beer for it. We also are participating in the AHA pro am event in June here in San Diego.”

Not too hard to infer some information and feelings from Sam’s comments. Good for him and Dogfish, doing a great deal to advocate for craftbeer. Let’s let our beer choices doing the talking.
