Craft Beer News Roundup: Boulder, Lost Coast, Sun King and More
We run down some interesting pieces of craft beer news that weren’t enough to warrant their own post, but none the less important. Read on about happenings at Boulder Beer, Rust Belt Brewing, Lost Coast,Sun King Brewing and Wynkoop.
Sun King Brewing of Indianapolis , IN has some serious expansion going on. They’ve built a new 2000 square foot cooler and converted their old walk-in into a barrel aging room. That can only mean good things from where I’m sitting.
They just ordered a 30 BBL Brewhouse from Newlands Systems Inc. They will be tearing our our current 15 BBL system and replacing it with the NSI system in Feb 2011.
As far as new beers go, they just released El Gallo Negro(Black IPA) last week, Popcorn Pils on Nov. 4th, and Winter Storm Warning(Imperial ESB) December 2nd.
Boulder Beer Company of Boulder, CO is looking to expand in a major way for 2011, should their cap X budget get approved. They are looking at AK, LA, MS, IO, ME and VT for new distro early next year….which will bring them well over 40 states distribution. Hazed 12 packs should be the first product line to make it out of the Colorado region. They have a Limited Beer still in R&D for the summer, and still haven’t nailed it down to the point where they can even talk about. Stay tuned for that.
Rust Belt Brewing of Youngstown, OH are making great headway in less than two years of being open. While they are already available in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, the Carolinas, they are headed to Michigan and Tennessee shortly. They will be sticking to their 22 oz. bomber packaging, and are set to release our first of several select seasonal and limited beers. Starting on the 13th of November, we are releasing our McPoyle’s Mile Stout followed by our XOXO Doppelsticke Altbier in December.
Lost Coast Brewing is continuing to expand into western Canada and is not beginning to move into Ontario. They are still in the rough stages of a new brewery with the initial stages of design occurring at the moment. Actual site has been picked with a work-in-process at purchasing it.
Expansion of the twelve pack line up occurred at the first of November with the release of Tangerine Wheat (12 packs). Distribution plans are limited to CA at this moment. Expansion of their 22 ounce (bomber bottles) is set to occur in spring or summer with a few more entries. Different: to say the least… We predict Lost Coast will start bottling some of their tasty tap only beer, but which beers remain to be seen.
