Clipper City Wins Gold Medal at World Beer Cup
Clipper City’s Winter Storm “Category 5” Ale Wins Gold
Baltimore, MD – Clipper City Brewing Company, the Maryland-based brewer, today announced that its Winter Storm “Category 5” Ale took the Gold medal in the International Pale Ale category at the 2008 World Beer Competition.
Winter Storm “Category 5” Ale, part of Clipper City’s Heavy Seas line of high gravity beers, placed first among 20 different entries in the International Pale Ale category. Referred to as a “winter warmer,” the ale clocks in at 7.5% alcohol by volume, has a rich, ruddy hue, and displays full malty flavors mingling with powerful hop aromas, and a lingering, firm hop bitterness.
“We are thrilled to have Winter Storm win the Gold Medal in the International Pale Ale category,” said Hugh Sisson, founder and general partner of Clipper City Brewing Company. “This is one of our most popular beers, and that is supported by the success we have with it each year.” Winter Storm is available seasonally every year from October to February.
Clipper City Brewing Company was founded in 1995 by Baltimore brewing pioneer, Hugh Sisson. The brewery is named for the famous Baltimore Clipper ship, a symbol that embodies Baltimore’s maritime heritage and a commitment to craftsmanship of the highest caliber. In addition to the Heavy Seas line of beers, Clipper City’s portfolio of products includes the Clipper City brand and the recently released Oxford Organic Ales.
Clipper City has been in operation for more than a decade and markets fine beers in 18 states, as well as the District of Columbia. In March 2008, Clipper City launched an expanded website that features several new elements including a reservation system for brewery tours, updated beer descriptions, photo tour of the brewery tour, and a video tour of the brewery.
