Clipper City Brewing Company Releases “Hang Ten” Weizen Dopplebock
“Surfs-Up” As Seasonal Brew Arrives for the Summer
Baltimore, MD – Clipper City Brewing Company, the Maryland-based brewer of the Heavy Seas brand, today announced the 2008 release of its seasonal beer, “Hang Ten.” This unique Weizen Dopplebock is an unfiltered wheat beer that is released in limited quantities and will be available beginning in July while supplies last.
“Hang Ten” is a classic Bavarian style wheat beer – unfiltered and slightly cloudy, brewed with a high percentage of wheat malt, and using a special yeast yielding aromas of apple and spice. It is also a dopplebock in style, brewed to strength of 10% alcohol by volume (ABV), so it has a very robust flavor, with a subtle sweetness on the finish.
“We were pleasantly surprised when “Hang Ten” turned out to be a real cult beer last year,” said Hugh Sisson, founder and General Partner of Clipper City Brewing Company. “It is a pretty unusual style, but consumers who knew what it was seemed to be highly enthusiastic, so we are excited to be making it once again. It represents what our Heavy Seas brand is really all about – bigger beers, showcasing some unusual styles, brewed to the highest possible standards and with a killer “pyrate” graphic theme – we are having a lot of fun with this product line!”
Clipper City Brewing Company has eight beers in its pirate-themed Heavy Seas brand portfolio, and they are currently available in eighteen states, as well as the District of Columbia. The beers exist in both 12 oz. bottles and draft, and may also be purchased in a variety twelve pack called the Sunken Sampler.
Clipper City Brewing Company was founded in 1995 by Sisson, a Baltimore brewing pioneer. The brewery is named for the famous Baltimore Clipper ship, a symbol that embodies Baltimore’s maritime heritage and a commitment to craftsmanship of the highest caliber.
