AleSmith Brewing’s Old Numbskull Wins Second GABF Gold Medal
San Diego, CA – AleSmith Brewing Company claimed a Gold medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 90 beer-style categories were announced October 4th at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
“Wow! I’m humbled and grateful for the Gold achieved at the GABF 2014 for Old Numbskull Barleywine. It also won the Gold at last year’s GABF, something not easy to achieve. My AleSmith Team Members continue to impress with their devotion to craft beer and commitment to making AleSmith a great brewery. And of course, a huge thank you to our customers and supporters for making all of this possible.” comments Peter Zien, owner of AleSmith Brewing Company.
AleSmith Brewing Company was recognized in the Barley Wine-Style Ale beer-style category for its AleSmith Old Numbskull. Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine-Style ale alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. This is Old Numbskull’s fourth Great American Beer Festival® medal.
