AleSmith Brewing Wins Gold & Silver At GABF
San Diego, CA – AleSmith Brewing Company claimed Gold and Silver medals at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition. Presented by the Brewers Association, GABF is the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. The top three winners in the competition’s 84 beer-style categories were announced October 13 at the Great American Beer Festival awards ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
“I am extremely proud of the AleSmith crew in earning a couple more GABF medals in 2013. I couldn’t be happier for each and every one of them over these recognitions on the world’s largest beer stage. The competition has grown increasingly more difficult over the years and I’m always humbled by our inclusion in the fold of award- winning breweries,” says Peter Zien, owner of AleSmith Brewing Company.
AleSmith Brewing Company was recognized in the Belgian-Style Abbey Ale beer-style category for its AleSmith Decadence 2012 Quadrupel Ale. A variety of Belgian malts impart notes of bread and ripe fruit with subtle hints of cloves and molasses. Its creamy mouthfeel is balanced by a rich, full-bodied finish. Our brewers had such a great time creating it that they decided to brew a new style each year to commemorate our anniversary.
AleSmith Brewing Company was also recognized in the Barley Wine-Style Ale beer-style category for its AleSmith Old Numbskull. Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine- Style ale alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. This is Old Numbskull’s third Great American Beer Festival® Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business.
