Review – Lost Coast Winterbraun
Lost Coast: “A full bodied, brown ale with a rich chocolate taste created from roasted chocolate and caramel malts. Topped with Czech Saaz Hops to give it a spicy flavor and aroma.”
Lost Coast Brewing Co. – Winterbraun Ale – 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass – 6.5% abv. Purchased as a single at Whole Foods Arroyo, Pasadena, CA.
Appearance: A dark brown with a small amount of translucence. Started with a small head that subsided to nothing.
Aroma: Light scents of cocoa.
Taste: The flavor is much more bold than the aroma, a big burst of chocolate, coffee, and mildly spicy hops. The finish has some walnut and hop bitterness in it.
Mouthfeel: Fizzy and a little bit syrupy.
Overall: Very pronounced this year, and the aroma would lead you to believe there isn’t going to be this burst of flavor. Anyone who is a fan of chocolatey beer would enjoy this. Not my favorite holiday beer, but by itself, it is above average.

Looks like we’ve covered a lot of the same brews. I agree with just about everything you said about this one.
Cheers,
