Review – Lancaster Brewing Winter Warmer
Lancaster Brewing: Our classic Olde Ale redefines the term “full-bodied” with its deliverance of complex and firm malt flavor. A fine blend of British and American hops provides an even bitterness as this beer finishes with a warming alcohol flavor.
Lancaster Brewing Winter Warmer – 8.9% abv
Appearance
Dark brown, almost black in color with highlights of reddish brown. Not much head with barely a finger on top of light tan, creamy foam.
Aroma
Malty and nutty. Hints of ripened fruits and strong alcohol smells. Some hop fragrance in the background but you have to look for it.
Taste
Rich and bold full-bodied flavor, with mainly toasted nutty notes. Strong alcohol flavor with some fruity characteristics from the yeast used. Excellent bitterness balance from the blend of British and American hops.
Mouthfeel
Thick and syrupy with a warming sensation in the back of the throat.
Overall
This limited seasonal was a first for me this year and boy am I glad I picked up some. The strong Olde-Ale style beer was perfect with a medium-rare steak and potatoes and kept me from shivering in the cold winter air. My friend John and I picked up a six pack after I saw a neat interview online with the Lancaster’s John Frantz. It just sounded so good that we had to try it.
