Review – Boulder Never Summer Ale
Boulder Beer: “Never Summer Ale is our “Aggressive” winter seasonal, deep ruby red in color, assertively hopped and brewed with dark caramel malt. For the drinking town with a skiing problem”
Boulder Beer Company – Never Summer Ale – Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. 5.9% abv.
Appearance: Dark amber with an off white, 1 inch head. Very translucent with moderate carbonation rising. Leaves webby lacing.
Aroma: Bready grains and sweet notes of caramel and toffee.
Taste: Bitter crisp hops followed by caramel and other dark sugar flavors. Finishes with a bitter sour twang, which is enjoyable.
Mouthfeel: A tad sticky and fizzy.
Overall: My mouth is telling me this is a light rendition of a Dopplebock. It has enough hops to offset the bready malt, but isn’t quite as complex as some of my favorite American Doppelbocks. All and all, a satisfying beer that could get slipped into other style categories easily.
