Review – Anchor Our Special Ale 2007
While I do not have many Christmas beers in my reserve, I thought it would be nice to review Anchor Our Special Ale 2007 aka Anchor Christmas in July. This beer has been made each year by Anchor, since 1975. While this beer isn’t particularly high in alcohol, it has been widely reported that this brew can be aged for many years, and will go on quite the flavor journey in the process.
Anchor Our Special Ale 2007 / Anchor Christmas 2007 – 6 months later – 12 oz bottle poured into a New Belgium glass.
Appearance: Midnight cranberry red with a tight, frothy head.
Aroma: Cranberries, raspberries, cloves, and fresh cut female holly.
Taste: Dark chocolate, tangy berries and dark roasted espresso hit my mouth first. The brew finishes with minute levels of hop spice.
Mouthfeel: Thick and sparkly from the carbonation level. Has a lingering aftertaste combining all of the flavors mentioned. Christmas in a bottle, then Christmas in a glass!
Overall: Christmas in a bottle then Christmas in a glass!

I’ve got tons of 6pks of it at Whole Foods on Arroyo Pkwy in Pasadena, CA if anyone is looking for it. It is fantastic, but didn’t sell as well as expected. So, if you want to have your own Christmas in July, stop on in! (Please forgive the shameless plug, I just know it’s hard to find these things out of season!)
