River Horse Tripel Horse
River Horse Brewing Co.
Tripel Horse – 10% abv
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
Slightly cloudy polished copper color. Not a whole lot of head to speak of but the tiny bubbles left behind a really cool looking lace on the glass.
Aroma
Very fruity with strong smells of vanilla. If you ever had Juicy Fruit chewing gum, this beer would be undetectable in a blind smell test. In the background, there are very fragrant spices and herbs to enjoy.
Taste
Just as the smell tells you, this beer has great spice from the herbs used. It’s fresh flower taste stands up against the dryness of this beer. I think freshly peeled orange when drinking this beer.
Mouthfeel
Big and rich. Extremely creamy, which registers on the roof of your mouth rather than on the tongue. The nice heat from the high alcohol stays in your mouth and throat and is rather enjoyable.
Overall
I am in love with this Belgian Tripel. River Horse is a local brewery in New Jersey and this is the first style I have tried that they make. I was fortunate enough to try several others at both Philly and AC Beer Festivals and recently purchased a sixer of their special reserve (review forthcoming). I originally bought this beer for two reasons: 1) they are in my home state and 2) the alcohol is super jacked up. That being said, I still love both of these reasons but this is possibly the best Tripel I have ever tasted. Do yourself a favor and go get a bottle. Or better yet, a six-pack. A keg?
