Review – Weyerbacher Insanity

Submitted by Dan on May 28, 2009 – 12:03 pm No Comment

Weyerbacher InsanityFrom Weyerbacher Brewing - Insanity is made by aging our perfectly balanced Blithering Idiot Barleywine in oak bourbon casks. This incredible combination creates a melange of flavors from rich malts, raisons, and dates to oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Insanity will be yours this February!!!

Weyerbacher Brewing – Insanity – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 11.1% abv. Purchased at Hops and Grapes in Glassboro, NJ.

Appearance: A brownish mahogany with a dense, creamy 1/4 inch head. After sipping, webby lacing is left behind.

Aroma: Green apple, booze, caramel, wood and very faint resinous hop.

Taste: Chocolate, apple, wood, bourbon, vanilla, faint spicy hops that gives a brief bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Creamy.

Overall: A great sipper, very complex, the great creamy mouthfeel really made it stand out from other Barley Wines/Old Ales.
