Review – Southern Tier Raspberry Wheat

Submitted by Evan on August 1, 2008 – 4:00 pm No Comment

Southern Tier Raspberry Wheat
abv ?

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.

Appearance
Surprisingly clear for a wheat beer with shades of pale yellow. Bright white foam sits at the top of the glass and will eventually leave a webby lace on around the glass.

Aroma
Not much aroma other than the sweetness from the raspberries.

Taste
Lots of raspberry flavor but not overpowering. The berries provide a nice tartness, which balances the sweetness of the wheat nicely.

Mouthfeel
Very simple, light and airy. This beer has moderate carbonation that gives a tingle on the tongue.

Overall
For a fruit-infused beer I was very impressed. In fact, this is actually the first Southern Tier brew that I liked and felt was drinkable. I’m not the biggest fan of fruit in beer but sometimes it can be a perfect marriage. In this case, the brewers at Southern Tier found a way to have the raspberries shine through but not overpower the subtle flavors we know as wheat beers. I could drink this again and again.
