Review – Fosters Special Bitter

Submitted by Dan on August 25, 2008 – 8:08 am No Comment

As a kid, my dad would buy the blue “oil cans” of Fosters.  One day, he decided, he didn’t think Fosters was made quite the same any more, and drew a line in the sand. No more Fosters, unless he was at a restaurant, and that was the best thing on tap.  The coolest thing out of all of it, was the cool, big can.  My brother and I would take off the top, and keep pencils or loose change in them.  Recently, I went to Ralph’s Supermarket, and saw a sale on the green “oil can” of Fosters, and decided to give it a whirl.

Fosters Special Bitter Ale – 25.4 oz oil can. Poured in to a tasting glass, remainder drank out of the oil can.  5.5% abv.

Appearance: Clear orange with a  fluffy, off white head.

Aroma: Beer soaked cardboard.

Taste: German or English session beer. Bitter and watery.

Mouthfeel: Flat yet thirst quenching.

Overall: Decent beer to have ice cold. Sorry, not my bag baby!
