Details on Stone 15th Anniversary Ale, Double Dry Hopped Ruination and BA Ken Schmidt / Maui/ Stone
We have a nice bit of Stone Brewing news for you, including Stone 15th Anniversary Ale , the test batch of Stone Ruination Dry Hopped with Citra and Centennial, and the upcoming release of Ken Schmidt / Maui / Stone Kona Coffee Macadamia Coconut Porter Aged in Bourbon Barrels. Hope you enjoy, Cheers!
Stone 15th Anniversary Escondidian Imperial Black IPA
This year’s beer—Stone 15th Anniversary Escondidian Imperial Black IPA—is set to be released on August 15th. It will be available on draft, in 22 oz. bottles, as well as a limited number of 3L bottles. I’ve included a mock-up of the bottle if you need to use it. It’s made with Pale Malt, Cara-Bohemian, Carafa III Special, and Chocolate Malt. Columbus hops were used for bittering, and Citra was added in the whirlpool for flavor/aroma. It was then dry-hopped with Nelson Sauvin and Pacific Jade hops from New Zealand.
In formulating this year’s beer, Greg wanted a mix of the Stone 10th Anniversary IPA and the Stone 11th Anniversary Ale (which you of course now know better as Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale)… “in other words, a black IPA that was massive, both in abv and in hop character” according to Mitch.
In even more EXCITING NEWS, The Full Pint’s own Arne Frantzell, creator of Trouble Brewing made a comic poking fun at the creative process behind this years Anniversary Ale (Originally posted at hoppress.com, Click to enlarge graphic). Stone enjoyed it so much, it will be making it to a limited amount of 22 oz. bottles.
Here’s a quote from PR Coordinator Randy “We got a big kick out of it. Heck, Mitch is using his caricature as his avatar on Facebook and Twitter. We thought it would be fun to do a small run of bottles with the comic on it. Not sure what the yield is going to be yet, but I think we’re just going to be selling it out of the Stone Company Store.” In addition to the limited run of bottles, the same comic will be featured on a shirt for sale at the Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration & Invitational Beer Festival, as well as in the upcoming The Craft of Stone Brewing Co.: Liquid Lore, Epic Recipes, and Unabashed Arrogance.
Stone Ruination IPA Double Dry Hopped with Citra and Centennial Hops
Word got back to me, along with a picture, that Stone would be taking their new 500 ml bottling machine for a spin. We asked if this product will be on the market, and sadly the answer for now is no, with a happy yes at the end. “The Stone Ruination IPA Double Dry-Hopped with Citra and Centennial was just a test run of the 500mL bottles and the cork and cage equipment. It was only released to Team Stone, and it was one bottle per person. They had it as a growler fill in the Stone Company Store last Friday, too.” So, keep an eye out for it at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens or the Stone Brewing Company store, and you might be able to try this beer.

Stone is looking to do a drawing system. $1 tickets will be purchased through a link we provide (all proceeds of which will go to charity) and we will have an outside service draw “winners” from the pool of entrants. Those that are selected will then be able to purchase a bottle at full retail price (amount not yet determined) from the brewery, in person. No shipping. All the rules and details will be posted hopefully next week.
