My very first friend in life, Taylor, moved away from me when I was 5. While it was the saddest thing to happen to me at that time, many great things came from him moving to the state of Maine, and me staying behind in New Jersey. Trips every summer to Maine were far more glamorous that living in Maine, and I get to learn of great things only folks up there get to enjoy. Taylor, knowing I geek out on beer, told me about this Harpoon 100 Barrel Series. Little did I know he would send me a bottle for my birthday!
Harpoon Brewing’s Steve Stewart’s Firth Of Forth Ale (100 Barrel Series #22) - 22oz bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.4% abv.
Appearance: Stained wood or cherry wood with a tight frothy head.
Aroma: Grapes, cognac, and dry malts.
Taste: Tart cherry or grapes, bread crust, bitter hops, and finishes with something similar to an Amarillo hop. After a few more sips, I found small notes of chocolate up front.
Mouthfeel: Rolls around like wine, and sticks to my mouth.
Overall: Should be paired with roast beef, very complex and fun to drink.

I really like being able to go into a supermarket here in Maine and find great beers like this one. As soon as a I saw it I picked up a bottle. But I’m sure there are lots of great finds down in NJ as well.
I agree with you review of this beer; I’m a big fan of red ales and found this one to be quite excellent. Hopefully I can find another bottle of it before they all disappear.
