My friend recommended I try Angel City Dunkel, over at the Spring Street Smoke House in Downtown, LA. Unfortunately, they were testing out an Angel City Imperial Stout in it’s place. Luckily, I was able to find a bomber of Angel City Dunkel at Bevmo, and it was the right price. In additon to the recomendation, I wanted to support one of my local breweries.
Angel City Brewing - Angel City Dunkel. 22 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Abv. unknown.
Appearance: A dark reddish brown. Poured with a 2 inch head, that subsides into a stripeAroma: Chocolate malt and bread crust.
Taste: Some similar flavors as an American Brown, a Doppelbock, and a Dunkel. Starts off chocolaty, but also has a nice hop spice in the middle. Finishes slightly bitter with hints of baking cocoa.
Mouthfeel: Very carbonated, very creamy, but not overly thick.
Overall: This is a very good beer, and I would like to see people take notice of it. Not many brewers are making a Dunkel in Southern, CA, so I am glad Angel City is keeping it real with this brew.
