Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale (10 years later)
From Dan – Over the last 6 years or so, I’ve dreamt of being able to try the Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale, and thought there was little chance. I may have had 0.25 ounce of a sip at a tasting since then, and I really don’t count that, as generous as that person was being. The Full Pint attended Stone’s 12.12.12 The Final Chapter Party, and got real familiarized with the beer people love to hate, Stone 02.02.02. Vertical Epic Ale.
Stone Brewing Co. – Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale – On tap at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens – 7.5% abv.
Appearance: Pours a clear yellow gold. Within the body you will see sparse tiny bubbles rising. A ring of thin white suds gather around the top of the glass.
Aroma: Strawberry lemonade, ribbon candy.
Taste: Dry pale malt, spicy yeast. Lemon candy. Spicy finish with light tartness.
Mouthfeel: Lively carbonation, on the thin side of medium bodied, juicy.
Overall: Pretty decent, and very lively for a decade old beer. My favorite part was the slight tartness that invited me back for more. Stone kept this keg in pristine shape, so results may vary.
