Double Mountain Lulu
From Double Mountain – Lulu was brewed in honor of the arrival of brewer Kyle’s second daughter, Love (pronounced “lou-vay”), and is the second in a limited series. This beer blushes with additions of hibiscus, pink peppercorn, and pink rosebuds. An earthen tartness mingles with floral and tangerine aromas, and a slight warming at the back of the mouth rounds out this saison. It’s good to meet you LuLu, welcome to the family!
Double Mountain Brewery – Double Mountain Lulu – 12.7 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 6.9% abv.
Appearance: Pours a vibrant amber tinted orange with a tight white head. Within the body you will see tiny bubbles rising.
Aroma: Spicy Belgian saison yeast, fresh peppercorn action, minerals.
Taste: Dry malt, spicy saison yeast, pepper corn, a bit of a rustic twang in the finish. After a few sips the peppercorn jives very well.
Mouthfeel: Modest carbonation, especially for the style. Full bodied.
Overall: I enjoy spiced saisons, and this is another one to add to my list. Didn’t get much hibiscus flavor, so I’m guessing that was more for color.
