Day one of Qingdao Beer Festival sets record

Submitted by Jonny Fullpint on September 24, 2008 – 4:30 pm No Comment

The Qingdao International Beer Festival has broken records on its very first day. Over 220 thousand people guzzled a whopping 66 tons of beer on Sunday alone.

After a successful Olympic sailing event, the city of Qingdao is now enjoying a spell of well-earned relaxation. Next to where the serious drinking is taking place, the crowd are dancing, singing and generally making merry as the music plays on.

Fifty thousand people turned up just to sample the German beer. All 200 barrels were drained on Sunday alone, and the suppliers are now rushing to bring another hundred in to quench the thirsty demand.

Both attendance and beer consumption surpassed the previous records. Altogether 48 brands of beer, from Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, the UK, India and Belgium, are showcased at the Qingdao fair.
