Smithwick’s Ale

Submitted by Don on October 13, 2009 – 11:00 am One Comment

Smithwicks From The Brewer’s of Smithwick’s Ale - Smithwick’s is Ireland’s number one ale. Its exceptional taste, distinctive colour and purity of ingredients make it unique. Its rich, satisfying taste has earned it five gold medals in the famous Monde Selection Beer Tasting Competition. Smithwick’s is produced using the finest hops and special roasted, malted barley.

Smithwick’s Ale brewed by Guiness – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5% abv.

Appearance: Garnet red with a fluffy, tan head.

Aroma: Earthy with hints of sweetbread and lemon zest. More “beer-like” than I’ve smelled in quite a while.

Taste: Not quite as malty as an Oktoberfest, but many of the same qualities, otherwise. Nice balance between hops and malt.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and clean with plenty of carbonation. Finishes a bit like unsweetened iced tea.

Drinkability: This would definitely qualify as a quality session beer. Chicken, seafood and pasta dishes would go well with Smithwick’s and I probably would not pair this with anything but the lightest-bodied of cigars as it could be easily overpowered.

    THE IRISH TRILOGY – PART 2 – SMITHWICK’S

‘Tis sure we’ll be wearing the green,
When the calendar says March seventeen,
    To help us to think,
    It’s Smithwick’s we drink,
Just try some, you’ll know what we mean.
