Review – Weyerbacher Heresy

Submitted by Dan on June 24, 2009 – 12:22 pm No Comment

Weyerbacher HeresyFrom Weyerbacher Brewing – This is an incredibly intriguing ale is made by aging our Old Heathen Imperial Stout in oak barrels that were used for making fine Kentucky bourbon! The result is an extraordinary, dark, and mysterious stout whose very essence has been enhanced.

Weyerbacher Brewing Co. – Heresy – Imperial Stout Aged In Oak Barrels – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 8.2% abv. Purchased at Hops and Grapes, Glassboro, NJ.

Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a ring of brown suds gathered at the top. Leaves spotty lacing throughout.

Aroma: Oak, dark chocolate, licorice, bourbon, vanilla, and a little booze sting.

Taste: Dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, a bit of spicy hop bitterness, and finishes with a twang.

Mouthfeel: Silky smooth.

Overall: A fantastic Imperial Stout with a real bite to it.
