Review – Terrapin Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout

Submitted by Dan on April 21, 2009 – 11:09 am One Comment

Terrapin Coffee Oatmeal Imperial StoutFrom Terrapin Beer Co. - This is a full bodied imperial stout with flavorful coffee taste and aroma. Black as night, this coffee stout is thick, rich and full of flavor. It includes a special blend of coffee created by Terrapin and Jittery Joe’s Coffee.

Terrapin Beer Co. – Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout – 12 oz. bottle poured into my New Belgium glass. 8.1% abv.

Appearance: A midnight brown with a ring of suds gathered at the top.

Aroma: Folgers instant coffee crystals and a little bit of semi-sweet chocolate.

Taste: Folgers coffee, semi-sweeet chocolate and little bit of a berry twang (if this was coffee, I would associate it with an acidic note).

Mouthfeel: Silky, coating and very carbonated.

Overall: I am really into coffee. I drink a nice sized serving a day. I haven’t had Foldgers since I worked for my dad as a teenager. Folgers isn’t undrinkable, but it isn’t that good. It has a unique roastiness, and it’s all my senses could come up with when drinking this beer.

I have always been a big fan of Wake ‘N’ Bake. I have found that if you sit on it for 6 months or so the bitter “Folgers crystals” taste mellows and it gets a creamier softer coffee taste. I have a mixed case of this and FBS aging just for this reason!!!
