Review – Flying Fish Imperial Espresso Porter

Flying Fish Imperial Espresso Porter review submitted by Evan “Ferman” Fritz

Appearance: This extremely limited seasonal porter is a roasted coffee color and look just like a pint of rich espresso when poured. Held up against the light, this dark brew shows hints of reddish hues.

Aroma: This porter smells of dark, rich coffee with pockets of dark chocolate. There are even hints of molasses in the background.

Taste: During the first sip, my mind immediately paired this beer with a bold coffee. In some ways, it even tasted sort of like instant Foldgers coffee.

Mouthfeel: This porter was very easy to drink and is not very filling. The brew likes to stick to the roof of your mouth with the smooth feel of a fresh cup of coffee.

Overall: Although these four-packs are difficult to come by, I was lucky enough to snatch up the last few bottles directly from the source. Flying Fish offers free tours every Saturday at their Cherry Hill, NJ brewery and allows patrons to leave with a six pack or two at cost. Their Imperial Porter is my favorite beer at the moment and also one of my all-time favorites. The rich coffee flavor and the 8% abv is match made in heaven.
