Review – Alesmith Grand Cru

Submitted by Dan on June 27, 2009 – 11:11 am One Comment

Alesmith Grand CruFrom Alesmith Brewing Co. - Our other famous Belgian-style offering is our Grand Cru. As with Horny Devil, it is fermented using yeast which originated in a Trappist monastery in Belgium. A darker type of Belgian candi sugar gives it more color and a richer complexity of flavor, consistent with the Belgian style.

From Alesmith Brewing – Grand Cru – 750 ml bottle poured into a goblet. 10.5% abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Market – Arroyo – Pasadena, CA.

Appearance: Pours a dark mahogany with almost no head. Very thick and cloudy looking.

Aroma: Dark fruits, plums, raisins, spices, and Belgian yeast.

Taste: Belgian yeast, candi sugar, herbal hops, bready malt.

Mouthfeel: Alesmith trademark silkiness.

Overall: Fantastic. Enjoy with a friend and or a main course.
