Mad River Serious Madness Black AleFrom Mad River- Serious Madness is an inky black brew with amber edges, Light bodied, silky smooth, complex and delicious. Not for the meek and timid this beer ferments out at a gratifying 8.6% ABV with an IBU of 74.7.

Mad River Brewing – Mad River Serious Madness Black Ale – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 8.2% abv.

Appearance:  Pours black with a thin frothy tan head. Subsides to a thick film eventually.

Aroma: Big roast and black coffee.

Taste: Big burnt roast, black coffee and fresh spicy hops.

Mouthfeel:  Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall:  This beer didn’t do it for me. Very roasty and one dimensional without the joyous mouthfeel of a porter or stout. Perhaps I needed a fresher bottle to obtain the hop aromatics.
