Kona Pipeline Porter

Submitted by Dan on October 20, 2009 – 8:05 am No Comment

Kona Brewing Pipeline PorterFrom Kona Brewing - Pipeline Porter is perfectly paired with hearty soups and stews, roast beef sandwiches, pot roast and mashed potatoes. It’s also a perfect beer on its own, drink it to take the chill off a windy, cold day!

Kona Brewing Co. – Pipeline Porter – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.3% abv.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with no head. You can find few swirls from the top looking down, but that’s it.

Aroma: A nice mixture of freshly roasted coffee beans and dark chocolate cake.

Taste: A medium bodied, slightly acidic unsweetened cup of iced coffee. Although I have never had it, I would guess it would be a glass of iced Kona coffee. Also roasted malts, semi-sweet chocolate.  Finishes with roast and a slight spicy hop note.

Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied and modestly fizzy.

Overall: I really enjoy this beer.  Out of all the coffee beers I have tasted, this one comes out on top for me.  I really get turned off when I get a mouthful of what seems to be instant coffee or iced burnt cofffee in a coffee beer.  This tastes like good hoppy porter mixed with fresh, perfectly brewed coffee.
