Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale

Submitted by Dan on November 5, 2009 – 6:38 am 2 Comments

Kona Brewing Fire Rock Pale AleFrom Kona Brewing Co. - Fire Rock Pale Ale is a crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt. Hood hops added to each brew.

Kona Brewing Co. – Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 6% abv.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber gold with a very small white head.

Aroma: Floral hops, rain water, dry malts, and a touch of sweetness and citrus.

Taste: Bready and sweet malt, bitter floral/tropical hops, sparkling mineral water. Finishes with slight bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and on the thin side.

Overall: I enjoy this beer immensely. Great level of hoppiness, not overdone with malt.  I’ve had it fresh in the state of Hawaii on tap, and I’ve had it in bottle. When fresh, both are great options for a crisp, drinkable, flavorful hoppy American Pale Ale.

I agree, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this beer is. I was expecting a sort of boring bland ‘contract brew’ type flavor. But in fact, it’s nice and crisp and well-hopped. Great summer/session beer for a hophead.
