Hoppin Frog Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S.

Submitted by Dan on December 31, 2009 – 2:11 pm 2 Comments

From Hoppin’ Frog - Made from our B.O.R.I.S. Imperial Stout, that was rated one of the World’s 50 Best Beers, and won the Gold Medal at the GABF in 2008. BARREL-AGED B.O.R.I.S. has picked up rich characters of vanilla, dark fruit, oak, and spice. It’s unbelievably complex and savory.

Hoppin’ Frog – Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. Oatmeal-Imperial Stout – 22 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 9.4% abv. From Trade on Ratebeer.com

Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a fluffy brown head that eventually subsides.

Aroma: Bourbon, vanilla, graham cracker, burnt sugar, toasted coconut and marshmallow. Not too much wood.

Taste: Tons of bourbony goodness. Roasted malt, coffee, hop spice. The after tastes lends a decent amount of wood flavor

Mouthfeel: Slightly fizzy, not as soft and creamy as most Barrel Aged Imperial Stouts.

Overall: This beer is money. Lots of bourbon notes, but not too sweet for my liking. Very big and balanced.
