Goose Island Bramble Rye Bourbon County Stout
From Goose Island - At Goose Island our brewers take every opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and aging techniques. For this edition of Bourbon County Brand Stout, they aged the classic recipe in rye whiskey barrels with raspberries and blackberries from Michigan. The result is a powerfully rich beer with notes of tart fruit and jam that fade into the warm spice of a fine rye whiskey.
Goose Island (AB/In-Bev) – Goose Island Bramble Rye Bourbon County Stout - 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 12.8% abv.
Appearance: Pours a viscous black with no head.
Aroma: Milk chocolate, grahm cracker crust, caramel, black raspberry ice cream (a treat I can’t find on the west).
Taste: Dark chocolate raspberry truffle, woody barrel notes, tangy raspberry preserves with modest booze in the finish relative to the abv.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied modest, un-obstructive carbonation.
Overall: Very delicious. The body was slightly less heavy, and that helped let the brambles shine.
