Firestone Walker 13 – Exclusive Tasting Notes

Submitted by Mike on November 9, 2009 – 7:16 am No Comment

Firestone Walkeer -13 (headline)From Firestone Walker - Allow it to warm to 55F to fully enjoy the pleasing and complex aromas. If left in a cool dark place, I suspect that this beer will age well. It was a pleasure in the making and I truly hope you enjoy our fourth oak- aged blend!

Appearance: Black, no light comes through, nice quickly dissipating caramel head.

Aroma: Bourbon, and lots of it, vanilla, chocolate, caramel, some sort of dark fruits like cherries or prunes, espresso.

Taste: Bourbon, like the best bourbon, vanilla, slightly hot up front but that dissipates quickly into a caramel and chocolate fusion, finishes like one of those Australian candy bars, a Violet Crumble, I hate to compare beer to candy, but, this is really good, after it warms a bit the finish is similar to nougat or the center of a Milky Way, slight dark cherry notes too.

Mouthfeel: Not as thick as I would have expected, velvety, light and smooth.

Drinkability: WOW! This was my favorite anniversary beer yet, the blending was perfect, the aromas were excellent, the taste really came out as it warmed, stellar beer. Not a chugging brew for sure, dessert in a wine glass, or brandy snifter if you’re that cool.
