Firestone Walker 13

Submitted by Dan on December 26, 2009 – 4:08 pm No Comment

From Firestone Walker Brewing – We are extremely honored to present to you our 13th Anniversary barrel aged blend!  This is our fourth barrel aged release and each year is another adventure into the flavor unknown.  Our oak aging cellar continues to grow and so do the blending possibilities.  We peaked at just over 120 barrels in our program this year, yet only 53 barrels made this year’s final blend.

Firestone Walker Brewing – Firestone Walker 13 – 22 oz.bottle poured into a goblet. 12% abv.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a frothy khaki head. The beer leaves behind spotty lace.

Aroma: Bourbon, chocolate liquor, vanilla extract, oak, hazel nuts, toffee, caramel, a leather bound book, and maple syrup.

Taste: Bourbon, molasses, bitter dark chocolate, maple syrup, oak barrel, hazel nut, a slight touch of coffee, and slight hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: The thinnest Barrel Aged Anniversary beer to date. Not a ton of carbonation to be found either.

Overall: The most balanced, and thus most tame big beer I have had from Firestone Walker.  I appreciate it not being syupy/goopy.  Unlike the last few years, this is ready to enjoy now, as it is very balanced, and not that boozy or hot.
