Dogfish Head Fort Vintage 2007

Submitted by Dan on March 16, 2010 – 8:27 am One Comment

From Dogfish Head – An ale brewed with a ridiculous amount of pureed raspberries (over a ton of em!). Fort has a Belgian Ale type base, then we follow a similar fermentation process as we use on our other high ABV beers, 120 Minute IPA and World Wide Stout. Due to its high ABV, Fort is an excellent candidate for cellaring. Grab a few bottles, enjoy one now and lay the others down for a few years (want to know when the Fort you find was bottled? Check the ‘Bottled On’ date on the neck of each bottle).

Dogfish Head – Fort – Vintage 2007 – 750 ml bottle poured into a goblet. 18% abv.

Appearance: Pours a light, cloudy red with a completely subsided head.

Aroma: Fermented raspberries (When I say that, I mean there is clearly raspberries and alcohol). Also whiffs of white wine.

Taste: Raspberries and sharp dark chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Thick, almost syrupy with low carbonation.

Overall: A truly fantastic raspberry experience.

I had some of the 2009 a few weeks ago and I found the raspberry flavor to be overwhelming! I’ve been told that it will mellow nicely (as your review mentions) over time so I picked up my own bottle for future use!!!
