Clipper City Heavy Seas Prosit!

Submitted by Don on September 22, 2009 – 1:18 pm No Comment

Heavy Seas Prosit! From Clipper City Brewing, makers of Heavy SeasProsit! is malt focused, made with five types of grain including Vienna and Munich malts -  plus a secret extra malt that we use only in our Prosit!  Consider this bomber to be the burly big brother to our Clipper City MarzHon, a three year in a row winner at the Great American beer Festival.  We’ve balanced the sweetness of the malt with three kinds of hops making this one of the boldest marzen style you’ll ever try.”

Clipper City Brewing – Heavy Seas Prosit! – Purchased from Dawson’s Liquors in Severna Park, MD. Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip glass. 9% abv.

Appearance: A deep, rusty copper with a modest, ecru head that dissipated quickly.

Aroma: Earthy notes of autumn leaves and toffee but with occasional floral wafts.

Taste: Let there be no doubt that this is an Octoberfest. The malts are kicked up several notches above the MarzHon making it rather sweet on the palate. There are enough hops present to balance the finish and give it a lingering, gentle bitterness.

Mouthfeel:
Thick and creamy but finishes relatively clean.

Overall: It’s hard to say whether this is my favorite in the Heavy Seas series. If it’s not, it’s second only to the Big DIPA (and not far behind, at that). Octoberfest is one of my favorite styles of beer and this more than does the style justice.
