Avery The Beast Grand Cru Ale

Avery The Beast Grand Cru AleFrom Avery BrewingThe Beast is a seducer – accommodating, complicated, powerful, dark and created to last the ages. With a deep burgundy color and aromas of honey, nutmeg, mandarin orange and pineapple, this massive and challenging brew has flavors akin to a beautiful Carribean rum. Dates, plums, raisins and molasses are dominant in a rich vinous texture. Cellarable for 10+ years.

Avery Brewing Co. – The Beast Grand Cru – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. Batch 7 (2009)  15.07% abv. From Poot E. Fresh from Fashion Park, CA.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful dark ruby with a pin stripe of white head. The body is clear with very light visible carbonation.

Aroma: Port wine, vanilla, honey, dark booze, raisins, and spicy hops.

Taste: Rum raisin ice cream and dark rum or sweet bourbon. In no particular order, I found vanilla, apple, maple syrup and wood. Finishes spicy.

Mouthfeel: Syrupy and very coating.

Overall: A great sipper dessert beer.  Very complex and thick.

I have a few bottle of this from each year going back to 2005. One of these years I’ll get around to doing a vertical tasting with them!
