Alaskan Baltic Porter

Submitted by Dan on December 18, 2009 – 9:09 am One Comment

Alaskan Baltic PorterFrom Alaskan Brewing Co. – “This beer is all about the ingredients,” says Alaskan brewer Michael King. “A ridiculous amount of hand-peeled and seeded whole gourmet Madagascar vanilla beans were used along with nearly 500 pounds of dark black cherries and a variety of specialty malts to create a dynamic and smooth experience. Aging on toasted French oak and the addition of vanilla beans during fermentation really round out the flavor.”

Alaskan Brewing – Alaskan Baltic Porter – 22. oz. bottle poured into a goblet.9.8% abv.

Appearance: Pours a dark mahogany with a decent tan layer of froth.

Aroma: Sweet cherry, and very faint roast.

Taste: A great pronounced balance of cherry, vanilla and oak.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: One of the best beers I have had this year, and surely my favorite from Alaskan.  An amazing use of oak and cherries.

  • If you think this is one of their best then I’ll have to try it. I absolutely love their Smoked Porter and am aging a bottle in my cellar. I didn’t realize that their Baltic Porter had vanilla and cherries in it. I’ll definitely pick up a bottle of that now. Thx for the review.
