Review: Port Brewing Hop 15
Hop 15 Double IPA from Port Brewing/Lost Abbey. Poured from a growler to a chilled pint glass.
Appearance: A dark orange syrup with swirls of gold and yellow depending on how the light hits the glass.
A very thin head compared to the bottled counter part. Has a sparkly, swirly top. After each sip, a trace of its thin yet sticky head leaves its mark. Almost looks like thick apple cider.
Aroma: You are smelling a piney forest with a bit of citrus essence. A very strong odor even from a far.
Taste: A strong hop flavor that leaves a flat bitter taste on the back of your tongue. Notes of orange and lemon coupled with a nice amount of malt flavor fight it out in the end. The abundant amount of hops put the nice malt flavor in check for a style that can drift farther to the malty side.
Mouthfeel: This is a heavy, syrupy beer. If you were to imagine a hop flavored chewing gum, this would be the flavor in your mouth. The spiciness from the hops and the alcohol content leave your mouth very warm as well.
Drinkability: This is a wonderful, rare treat that should be paired with food, or the very least, consumed after a meal. Unlike some Double IPAs, you get familiar real quick of its viscosity and alcohol presence. This is sure to impress any self proclaimed hop heads.
