Firestone Walker Velvet Merkin Becomes Velvet Merlin

| June 11, 2010 | Comments (3)

Firestone Walker Set to Release their second new seasonal of the year, this time, a rebrand of their oatmeal Stout, formerly known as Velvet Merkin. Read on for details on the name change.

Many Firestone Walker fans within California have been able to try a great oatmeal stout called Velvet Merkin, but now that it will be released to a wider audience. The name will be changed to Velvet Merlin. It will be  released six packs, a limited seasonal (fall/winter) release to slot in place of Solace.  We are looking at a September 1 release (subject to change) – everywhere Solace is currently being sold.

The name change…it was a bit internal and partially to avoid issues at the Federal level with label approval.  A beer named after an item like a Merkin can be an issue with many who would purchase this beer, so we chose to take the high road and name it after Matt Brynildson (our owners call him Merlin).

Stay tuned as we give you tasting notes on Velvet Merkin later today.
