Fort Collins, CO – August 22, 2008 - New Belgium Brewing’s new canning line began operations in May, introducing Fat Tire cans to its home state of Colorado. Much to the delight of beer and outdoor enthusiasts in the Pacific Northwest, the cans have now expanded into select stores in Oregon and Washington.

Cans of Fat Tire Amber Ale are now available in the following markets: Fred Meyer, Topps/Haggen, Puget Sound Natural Foods, Metropolitan Markets and Whole Foods.

“With such an active population and the limitless possibility for adventure, cans seemed a good fit for the great Northwest,” said Bryan Simpson, spokesperson for New Belgium. “Cans work well in stadium settings and they travel lightly in a backpack so long as they are packed back out.”

In Colorado, can sales have exceeded expectations as locals embrace the ability to take Fat Tire to places where bottles are not an option. Distributing cans also helps lighten New Belgium’s carbon footprint by saving fuel during transport by due to lighter weight loads.

The cans, which are 100% recyclable, feature Fat Tire’s original watercolor artwork. And for those beer lovers worried about Fat Tire’s taste changing in the can, fear not.

“We took a unique can-conditioning approach and its flavor was not compromised in any way,” added Simpson. “We ran a series of tests using our friends at Oskar Blues’ canning line and there was no flavor differential.”

Fat Tire cans are available only in 12-packs and retail for approximately $16.00.
