Review - Mendocino White Hawk Original IPA

Mendocino Brewing Co’s White Hawk Original IPA - 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 7% abv.

Appearance: A cloudy straw yellow with bubbles floating to the top.  1/4 inch white head.

Aroma: Hints of citrus and bready malts. There are noticeable whiffs of yeast.

Taste: Lemony, yet bitter hops and a handful of malt. Goes back and forth, tasting like a lemony pale ale and a bitter IPA. Some metal and chemical aftertaste.  I did use a clean, sanitized glass.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and puckering from the bitter hops.

Overall: I would pass on this beeer. While Mendocino Brewing has a unique hop profile that lends the metallic bitterness to some of their offerings, there are many other IPAs in this price range and abv range that should be picked over it, when given the chance.  This does remind me of Long Trail’s IPA that I had earlier this year. Perhaps this should be put in front of an East-coaster.
